Rules - stock from stock update

Wed Apr 1, 2009, 8:07 PM
Please read. My rules are fairly simple, and I appreciate it if you follow them. :)

Most of my work is licensed as CC-BY-NC-3.0. This means that you can use/edit/display my images freely, provided you follow the restrictions and rules below:

1. A link to the image you used plus to me or my gallery is required in your image description or somewhere on the same page as the image. Please use :devAyelie-stock: and the http:// address for the image, so others can find the piece as well if they wish to see/use it :)

2. Leave a comment on the image of mine you used or send a note with a link to your final work. If you want to post an image you created with one of my works or want to display my work somewhere other than deviantART, please send me a note letting me know where it's going to be posted.

3. My stock can be used in deviantART-only prints, AS LONG AS more work goes into it than just a recolour, retouch, photoshop action, texture overlay, etc. Let me know if you submit the image as a print, I might want to add it to my wishlist or purchase a print myself! Please be advised, however, that CC-BY-NC (Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial) means you cannot legally sell an image that incorporates one of my works unless you have my explicit permission. Permission has been extended to dA only and I reserve the right to request you take down a print if I think it violates my terms of use. If you're not sure, ask first! I'm really quite friendly, you know :D

4. All traditional art or digital painting (NOT photomanipulation) using my stock as a reference can be sold anywhere without asking permission.

5. You may NOT redistribute any of my works without crediting me as the author and providing both a link to the original work on deviantART and to my deviantART page. Any redistribution or display without appropriate credit is against the law and violates copyright, and I will take action. Thank you.

6. :new: You may NOT create resources from my stock images. This means no brushes, premade backgrounds, lit templates, or any other resource offered for use, whether free or paid. My stock is to be used in art only.

Please see the following FAQs for help or more information:
- FAQ #81: How can I make links to other deviants, deviations, or websites?
- FAQ #217: What are "Stock Photos" and can I use "Stock Photos" in my submissions?

is it ok to use your stock as reference for a drawing, painting, etc?
Yup, most definitely! I appreciate a credit in the form of a link, same as for photomanipulations, but you're more than welcome to use them as a reference :D

Is it fine if I submit [link] as a print?

I'm a little uncertain about your third rule, which states

"My stock can be used in deviantART-only prints, AS LONG AS more work goes into it than just a recolour or retouch."

Is it permissible to recolor, say one of the 'Old paper HUGE' textures black for a piece?
Oh, recolouring within a piece is fine if you're adding other elements as well. What I mean by that rule is you can't take one of my photos, convert it to black and white, and then sell it as a print. If you one of my photos of a duck (for an utterly random example), turn it pink, and add it to a photomanip where you've added sky and mountains and a person and a lake and such it's perfectly fine :D

Does that make more sense? :aww:
